Mother's Day Virtual Supper Club

Today I share what I’ll call Heritage recipes. Each one of these cherished formulas for cooking success is from friends or family who continue to celebrate the traditions of the past, by releasing these little treasures into the world. They’ve come via recipe card, cooking classes, and cookbooks and most of them have so many stains on them, you know they’ve been loved.

Possibly you fit this mold of the Friend, Mom, Grandmother, Sister, Brother, or Aunt who graciously cooked up these recipe jewels that have brought so much happiness around the table. So sit back and enjoy the culinary journey. My hope is you choose your favorites for your Mother’s Day table! Cheers to all the Moms!

First things first. If your serving breakfast to Mom and she embraces the Joy of Java, here are a couple of my favorite “treat” coffees; Praline Coffee or Maple Coffee. Maybe you’d like to celebrate Mom with breakfast in bed?! If your Mom likes Mimosas, Martina McBride shares her Sparkling Grapefruit Mimosas for a crowd in her cookbook Martina’s Kitchen Mix: So you’ll have plenty to serve your guests, regardless of when they show up!

You have a couple of options for setting up your Mom’s breakfast tray, table or buffet. Egg Frittata or Cream Brûlée French Toast. Why not add a touch of fresh picked flowers to your Mom’s tray or table. Be creative and use whatever cup, glass or vase you have.

How about a fast forward to grazing, drinking and eating apps for lunch! Summer Cocktails & Color include four great cocktails and some matching color schemes + Champagne Etiquette. Appetizers build the bridge between your Mother’s Day Breakfast and Supper! Barbara’s Cheese Ball + Onion Spread from Cedar Spray + Summer Peach Salsa & Peach Royale Cocktail.

My Confessions of a Table Dressings Geek goes from fancy to fun. Choose a few fun opotions and create your very own version that includes your Mom’s likes, hobbies or decor and make the unexpected choice.

Now it’s time for Supper, so let’s get to it. Sara Monick’s legendary cooking classes taught me many things, not the least of which include this Red & Yellow Pepper Soup with Basil Cream. It is the perfect way to kick off your Mom’s celebration. Summer is the best time for salads, so how about a Gorgonzola and Grape Salad with Candied Garlic?

Grilled Salmon with Sweet Onion Relish is from another Minnesota legend that also offered amazing cooking classes and owns countless restaurants in MN and beyond- D’Amico & sons.

I love side dishes because there are so many choices the sky truly is the limit. Roasted New Potatoes with Lemon, Basil, and Chives and Zucchini & Tomato Stripes round out the main course food choices.

I’ve often wondered if I ate dessert first…could it pole vault me toward a fabulously sweet stage for the rest of the day…sorry I digressed into dream land. D’Amico & sons cooking classes provides you with the first dessert choice. Roasted Pineapple with Coconut Cookies. If my paternal grandmother was still alive, she would serve your next dessert choice on a beautiful crystal plate and yes, even to the kids. Her philosophy was, if we don’t break a few things, that just means we’re not using them at all. So Voila, I present Apricot Fingers from the loving hands of Nano. What sweeter way to end your Mothers’ day of celebrations than with a Chocolate - Walnut Torte; recipe from Kenwood Vineyards.

Cheers to all the Moms and the families who love them. I hope we’ve inspired you to try some heritage recipes that just might turn into your favorite new Mother’s Day tradition.💋🥂
