Teriyaki Sauce

by Julie Johnson, Tastemaker in Residence

Here is a favorite teriyaki sauce recipe using garlic.  Please note, I modified an original recipe found on cookingclassy.com.  The original recipe called for soy sauce, brown sugar, and corn starch.  I chose to substitute for “cleaner” ingredients such as coconut aminos, maple syrup, and tapioca starch.

Ingredients

½ cup coconut aminos

½ cup water

3 Tbsp honey

1 ½ Tbsp maple syrup

1 heaping spoonful of minced garlic

½ tsp dried ginger

2 Tbsp tapioca starch

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan mix the coconut aminos and ¼ cup water, honey, maple syrup, garlic, and ginger.  Bring mixture to boil.  Mix tapioca starch with ¼ cup water and add to sauce in pan.  Reduce heat to low, stirring constantly until sauce begins to thicken.  Remove from heat, set aside.

  2. Serve over veggies and rice or use to baste meats during grilling.
