Hong Kong Steak
by Katie Chin, Tastemaker in Residence
Want to shake up your 4th of July BBQ this year? Try this succulent, melt-in-your-mouth tender and delicious recipe for Hong Kong Steak. The marinade couldn’t be easier and I guarantee it’ll give off fireworks at your get together. You can get all of the ingredients for this Hong Kong Steak recipe at your local grocery store. Wake up on 4th of July morning and toss the beef with the marinade ingredients in plastic baggie, place in your fridge and just throw on the grill when you’re ready to eat. I like to serve this dish with a side of baby bok choy. You can find premium hoisin sauce in the gourmet section of Cost Plus World Market.
1 1/2 lbs beef tenderloin, trimmed
2 Tbsp oil
1 tsp soy sauce
1 tsp salt
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 Tbsp peeled and minced fresh ginger
1 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
4 Tbsp Hoisin Sauce
- In a small bowl, combine the marinade ingredients until blended. Pour the marinade ingredients in a large resealable plastic food storage bag. Place in the refrigerator for 30 minutes and up to overnight.
- Pre-heat a grill to high heat and brush with oil. Remove the beef from the marinade and grill for 4-5 minutes per side or until desired doneness. Let rest for 10 minutes.
- Slice beef thinly and serve immediately.
