Sloppy Joes

Here's the Sloppy Joe recipe that's been around for awhile and making a comeback when you don't want to stand over a grill. Remember the Manwich from the 60's?  Here's the better homemade version from "Betty Crocker Cookbook, 11th Edition: The Big Red Cookbook".

Makes six generous sandwiches.

Ingredients
1 lb lean (at least 80%) ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped (1/2 cup)
1/2 cup chopped celery
1 cup ketchup
1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp ground mustard
1/8 tsp pepper
6 good hamburger buns, split

Instructions

  1. Cook beef, onions and celery over medium heat 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally until beef is done. Drain. Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard and pepper. Heat to just bubbling, then simmer uncovered 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  2. Let party-goers spoon onto buns.

Enjoy this nostalgic picnic fare!
