Torticas de Moron

1 cup sugar
1 cup butter, softened
1 egg, yolk and white separated
3 cups flour 
1/4 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp lime zest


  1. Preheat oven to 325º
  2. Cream sugar and butter, add egg yolk, mix well
  3. Gradually add flour, salt, and lime zest until well blended
  4. Roll dough into 1-1/2” log. Cover tightly with plastic wrap, refrigerate at least 30 minutes or (up to 2 days)
  5. Slice about 1/3” thick, place on parchment covered cookie sheet. Brush each slice with egg white and a few drops of water. Sprinkle with sugar
  6. Bake about 25 - 30 minutes until lightly browned

Cook's Note

  1. If so desired, decorate with ribbons of melted chocolate
