From My Boots 2 My Roots - Week #1

by Tania Staps, Tastemaker in Residence

It's Sunday evening, and once again I’m starting a diet on Monday….

How many times will I do this? Well, I hope never again! Because this time I'm not starting a diet, I'm launching a new lifestyle! I do not want to say it's a diet, and for the record, I hate that word! The first 3 letters are die! I choose Life, a Lifestyle of eating healthy, exercising, and all around taking care of me! For once!

Because I. Am. WORTH. It! And so are YOU!

Let me begin by introducing myself. My name is Tania Staps, and I have been addicted to food for more than a decade of my life. I am a believer in Jesus Christ; I know He can do all things, however, I did not believe He could heal me of this. Until recently...I found myself at the front of a church, all by myself, in front of literally hundreds of people, wailing for God to please forgive me and help me once and for all!

I have been treating my body like a dumpster and it has to stop! But how?

I knew something had shifted and for a month or so I was on a high! Eating veggies and lean meat; walking, and seeing major results! I thought this is it! My mind is healed, and I'm gonna finally do this thing!

Then, inevitably Life happened, and I found myself at the end of an ice cream carton, my drug of choice. Where was the help? Where was my willpower? I was a failure once again! And once again, I started taking care of everyone else, but me!

Then a couple of weeks ago, I found myself at another church service. This time I truly felt something that I had never felt before, and my friend who was with me realized it as well. My issue has been about my identity. I wanted a change in my body; God knew I needed a change in my heart and mind. You see, when you know who you are, and more importantly Whose you are, things change.

I am not saying it has been easy, in fact, after these experiences, things have been quite difficult in my life. I had to readjust my mindset and how I approach problems, but I know God healed me, and now I am literally walking out my healing. I've asked the Lord to heal me from head to toe....From my Boots 2 my Roots! And you know what, I know He has!

One thing I am certain of is when you begin a life change, you must have accountability. I am so blessed to be a part of the Spirited Table Family. I love this website!

I want to chronicle my journey so that one day I may be able to help others who also struggle with this issue. I am going to be extremely honest and open about the good, bad, and ugly part of undoing the damage I have done. My hope is if someone is going through the same thing they will know they are not alone!

I will give shout outs to so many who are already helping me and include their information so you can check it out for yourself. I will share yummy recipes and tips that help me along the way. I will also upload videos as well as before and after pictures.

I would like to thank all of my family and friends who have agreed to take this journey with me. Your love and support during the "heavy" days is Priceless!  The fact that you love me now is so precious to me, and I will Never forget it! I Thank you all in advance for your prayers and support! So let's step out....:)
